About LiftClubs
liftclubs.co.za — Ride together. Save together.Our Story
LiftClubs was born out of a simple observation: South Africans have been sharing lifts for decades.
Long before apps existed, commuters were arranging rides through word of mouth, workplace noticeboards, and neighbourhood WhatsApp groups. A colleague heading the same direction. A neighbour driving past your office every morning. An informal arrangement that saved both parties money and made the daily commute a little less lonely.
We didn't invent lift clubs. We just built a better home for them.
Why We Built This
Driving in South Africa is expensive — and getting more expensive every year.
Petrol sits above R27 per litre. Monthly fuel costs for the average Gauteng commuter can exceed R3,000. Add insurance, maintenance, and the slow drain of sitting in traffic for two hours a day, and the true cost of driving alone becomes very hard to justify.
At the same time, most cars on South African roads during peak hours carry only one person. The same routes. The same times. The same destination areas. Millions of commuters travelling in parallel, each bearing the full cost alone.
LiftClubs exists to change that.
What We Do
We connect South African commuters travelling the same routes — drivers with empty seats and passengers looking for reliable, affordable alternatives to driving alone.
Whether you're commuting from Tembisa to Sandton every morning, from Brackenfell to the Cape Town CBD, or making the long haul from Vereeniging to Woodmead — there are people on your route. LiftClubs helps you find them.
Our platform is free to join. Listings are posted by real commuters across Gauteng, the Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, and beyond. Every day, new routes are added as more South Africans decide that sharing the journey just makes sense.
Built for South Africa
LiftClubs is not a global platform adapted for South Africa as an afterthought. It was designed here, for the specific realities of commuting in this country.
We understand that trust matters deeply. That safety is a genuine concern, not a checkbox. That data costs are real, and mobile-first is not optional. That the distance between where people live and where they work is often vast, and that public transport doesn't always bridge that gap reliably.
Everything we build — from our verified listings to our route-based search to our commuter resources — is shaped by those realities.
The Bigger Picture
Every shared trip means one fewer car on the road. Less congestion. Lower emissions. A small but real contribution to the kind of cities South Africans actually want to live in.
But we'll be honest — most people join LiftClubs because of the money. And that's completely fine. Saving R1,500 to R3,000 a month on fuel is a meaningful difference in someone's life. If environmental benefits come along for the ride, so much the better.
Where We're Going
LiftClubs is still growing. New provinces. New routes. New tools to help commuters connect faster, communicate more easily, and commute more confidently.
If you've ever wished your daily commute cost less, took less out of you, and connected you with people heading the same way — you're exactly who we built this for.
